Party Organs

ZTP Branches

The Branch is at the forefront of the party at the level of the community, representing its values and expressing its ambitions. The branch is the basic unit of the party, all mobilisations and recruitments is the responsibility of the branch. The branch is the heart and soul of the party.

The Ward

The ward is made up of all the branches in an administrative ward. Its executive committee is elected at a ward assembly by delegates representing the branches in that ward.

The District

The district consists of all the wards in an administrative district. Its executive committee is elected at a district assembly by delegates representing the wards in that district.

The Province

The province consists of all the administrative districts in a province. The provincial executive committee is elected at a provincial congress by delegates representing all the districts in the province.

The National Council

The National Council is the principal organ of the party tasked with the authority to lead and execute the aims and objectives of the Party. The National Council implements decisions of congress. It also supervises and directs the work of the Party and all its organs. The National Council makes rules, regulations and procedures which govern the conduct of the Party’s organs and its members. It oversees the work of the Women’s League and the Youth League. The National Council meets at least twice per annum.

National Executive Committee

The National Executive Committee is the standing committee of the National Council responsible for implementing all the decisions, directives and rules of the National Council. The National Executive is therefore the administrative organ of the National Council. The National Executive shall meet every month

The National Management Committee

The National Management Committee is responsible for the day to day running of the Party and is a subcommittee of the National Executive Committee. The National Mangement committee makes no policy decisions.

The Women’s League

Every woman who has attained 18 years who is a member of the Party is entitled membership to the Women’s League through her Branch Executive Committee. The Women’s League shall perform the following functions:

  • To mobilize and organise the women of Zimbabwe to join and participate actively in the Party.
  • To ensure that women are fully involved in all Party activities including policy making processes and events.
  • To promote the education and adult literacy of women.
  • To prepare women for leadership positions not only in the Women’s League but also in the main Party structures and in national public positions.
  • To support female members of the National Assembly and local government in their tasks of representing their offices.
  • To promote and protect the rights of women and children.
  • To combat discrimination, violence and all forms of inequalities against women.
  • To remove customs, laws and attitudes that oppresses and suppresses women.
  • To implement policies of the Party as defined by Congress.
  • To design and formulate policies for the Women’s League.
  • To foster solidarity with progressive women organisations and groups locally and globally

The Youth League

The Youth league is open to all young members of the party between 18 and 35 years of age. Functions of the Youth League are:

  • To mobilize youths to join the Party.
  • To mobilize the youths for full participation in the political, cultural and economic affairs of the country.
  • To ensure that youths are fully involved in all Party activities including policy making processes.
  • To mobilize youths in support and defense of the Party.
  • To formulate and carry out capacity building and training programmes for youths.
  • To promote gender equity and equality in all social spheres and structures especially amongst the youths.
  • To promote unity, debate, tolerance and constructive criticism among the youths.
  • To groom youths for future roles in leadership of the Party and the country.
  • To nurture solidarity and friendship with other progressive youth organisations in Zimbabwe and globally.
